| No consensus on convention on international terrorism: Rajya Sabha | | | New Delhi: A consensus for adoption of a comprehensive convention on International terrorism is still eluding the United Nations, the Rajya Sabha was told today.
While there is a wide support for this initiative, a consensus for its adoption has so far eluded the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said in a written reply.
The Heads of state/government at the high-level plenary meeting at the start of the 60th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September last year had deliberated on the issue, he said.
They had stressed the need to make all out efforts to reach an agreement and conclude a comprehensive convention on international terrorism, Sharma said.
India has Joint Working groups on counter terrorism with 25 countries including China, Russia, the US, Japan and the European Union, he said. |
