Over Rs. 23 lakhs distributed among 236 artisans
Govt for bettering living standard of artisans: Romesh

Jammu, March 13
To encourage and boost the moral of handicraft artisans in the state, the Minister of State for Industries and PHE, Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma assured that the government would provide all possible assistance to raise their socio economic status.
The Minister was speaking at a cheque distribution function held at Jammu Haat this morning.
Chairman J&K Handicraft Development Corporation Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Mr. Lokesh Jha, Director Handicrafts, Mr. R. A. Qadri, S. Surinder Singh Channi, Officers of Handicraft Department and artisans were present.
On the occasion Dr. Romesh Sharma and Haji Abdul Rashid distributed cheques worth Rs. 23,60,000 among 236 handicraft artisans of Jammu for construction of their own work sheds under Ambedkar Hospitaliya Vikas Yojna (AHVY). The function was organized by the State Handicrafts Corporation in collaboration with Ministry of Textiles Government of India.
Addressing the artisans, Minister of Industries said that the programme has been launched by the Government with an objective to enable the artisans to set up their independent units and earn a dignified living. He asked them to avail the benefits of such centrally sponsored schemes for upliftment of their living standard.
Haji Abdul Rashid apprised that this is the first installment released to the artisans for initiating the construction work of their worksheds. He asked the artisans to utilize the amount judiciously for the purpose. He asked the officers of the Handicraft Corporation to monitor the works and accordingly produce utilization certificates for onward transmission to union government for early sanction and release of 2nd installment. He said that the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad would be requested to grace the occasion for distribution of 2nd installment. He lauded the efforts of Chief Minister for promoting the industries sector of the state by way of organizing number of handicraft exhibition in and out of the state wherein artisans could exhibit their skills adding that handicraft artisans were benefitted a lot during these exhibitions. He also hailed the steps of Chief Minister for Khushal J&K and introducing of Roshni Act.
