| Estimates Committee reviews functioning of PDD | | | JAMMU, MARCH 13 Estimates Committee of Legislative Assembly has stressed upon the Power Development Department (PDD) to initiate concrete measures to improve the over-all power scenario in the State. The Committee also directed the Department to ensure uninterrupted power supply to those areas where metering process has been completed. The Estimates Committee that met here today with MLA Mr. Ghulam Hassan Khan in chair reviewed the over-all functioning of PDD and held threadbare discussion to bring further improvement in the power situation. The Committee also reviewed the status of various on-going projects in the State and asked the department to accelerate the pace of works and complete the projects within stipulated time frame. The department should make concerted efforts to realize revenue targets, the Committee maintained. While briefing the Committee, Special Secretary, PDD Mr. Khurshid Ahmed apprised that till date the department has installed 1.110 lakh electric meters in Valley and 0.889 lakh in Jammu division. He said efforts are on to install these meters in uncovered areas. With the hundred per cent metering, the power situation would definitely improve in the state. The Government’s priority is to cover Jammu and Srinagar cities in the first phase and in second phase, other towns and rural areas would be taken up, the Special Secretary maintained. Those present in the meeting included legislators, Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Mr. Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Mr. Rachpal Singh, Mr. Zahoor Ahmed Mir, Moulvi Abdul Rashid, Smt. Shanti Devi, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia, Mr. Brij Mohan Sharma, Additional Secretary Assembly Mr. G.N.Mir and senior officers of PDD. |
