Militants launch grenade attack in Kashmir; four BSF personnel injured
8/3/2006 6:32:26 PM

Srinagar: Militants launched a grenade attack in the Gool belt of Udhampur District late on Wednesday night injuring four personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and an officer.

The personnel were on their way to Daram when they were attacked in Jamsalan village, officials said on Thursday. The militants also resorted to firing which led to a retaliation from the BSF.

The four BSF personnel injured in the attack are Assistant Commandant Pankaj Pundeer, Sub-Inspector Rama Krishana, Head Constable Idnus and Constable Mohinder Singh. All four were sent to hospital for treatment. As Krishana and Singh were critical they were flown to the Northern Command Hospital at Udhampur, officials said.

The militants, however, managed to escape.

On a tip off that the militants were hiding in the maize field, army troops and additional BSF personnel rushed to the area this morning and launched search operations.
