Hari Om asks NC to abandon politics for double speak
3/14/2007 12:46:30 AM

Jammu | Mar 13
J&K BJP Vice-President & spokesman Prof. Hari Om today took the National Conference (NC) to task for its tirade against State Governor, Lt. Gen. S.K. Sinha (Retd.) for his timely suggestion that the return of J&K to the pre-1953 position is not feasible. He said that the NC’s demand for pre-1953 politico-constitutional set-up or withdrawal, of the central laws from the state extended after August 9, 1953, is ill-designed and communally – motivated and asserted that this demand, if accepted and implemented, would simply mean a victory of the separatists and fundamentalists and a step short of independence.’
He said it would also mean collapse of the parliamentary form of government in the State would had no civil and democratic rights. The BJP would oppose the NC demand tooth and nail and not allow the Union Government to tinker with that process, which has to some extent integrated J&K with the rest of the country, the BJP spokesman declared in unequivocal terms.
Equating NC with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) the BJP leader said that the NC allowed the Union government to extend no less than 13 additional Union laws to the State between 1975 and 1990, including POTA and the law which enhanced the life of the Assembly from five to six years.
As per the release, Hari Om has asked NC to abandon the politics of double speak and work for a system that enables the people of J&K to enjoy all the rights and privilege which are available to the rest of the Indians under the Union constitution. Regarding the assertion of NC that the people of the State alone have the right to determine the nature of centre-state relations, Prof. Hari Om said the people of J&K are part and parcel of the Indian nation and, hence, that they cannot be treated differently. He said the people of the State have already suffered because the communal, separatist and anti-democratic Article 370 and asserted that what they immediately need to compensate those enormous losses is the collapse of that wall which stands between them and the Indian constitution.
