| Mangat stresses on brining all establishments under EPF scheme | | | Jammu, March 14 Minister for Labour, Employment and Ladakh Affairs Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma has impressed upon the officers of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Organization to expand their jurisdictions to every nook and corner of the state to bring all business establishments under the purview of Employees Provident Fund scheme so that employees and workers get benefitted. This was stated by the Minister while chairing a review meeting of EPF organization here today. Principal Secretary Labour and Employment Mr. B. L. Nimesh, ex-officio-Commissioner EPF Mr. P. S. Betab also attended the meeting. Mr. Sharma, who is also Chairman of the EPF Organization said that the organization has to play important role to safeguard the interest of the labour class by taking stern action against the defaulting institutions who fail to deposit Employees Provident Fund alongwith employer share in time. He stressed for constant check by regular inspections of the old and new industries, factories and other business houses all over the state so that working class may not deprive of their due rights. He said the officers have to work trustees of the hard-earned money of the workers and ensure that their single penny is utilized for their welfare. Minister issued directions to the ex-officio-Commissioner to take up the matter of investment of EPF money with various financial institutions including Banks who would offer higher rate of interest. He also instructed to initiate steps to redress grievances of the staff and improve their service conditions. He directed them to submit a comprehensive proposal for expansion/ re-vamping of the organization to improve its work culture.
Mr. B.L. Nimesh said that government is fully aware of the problems confronted to the field functionaries in achieving their targets but this organization is an autonomous body and it becomes imperative upon them to work hard to improve financial position which is directly linked with the betterment of the working class as well as functionaries of the organization. He asked them to exercise their powers in full while inspecting establishments and find out exact number of employees working and also see that proper attendance registers and other required formalities as admissible under rule are fulfilled by the employers. Mr. Betab while giving detail of the activities of the organization said that J&K EPF scheme came into existence during 1961 to provide social security to the working class. The scheme was extended to whole state and all establishments in public and private sector has to comply the directions under the scheme. He said all employees have to contribute 8.33 percent of the basic wages and the matching share is payable by the employer of the establishment by depositing directly in to J&K Bank. The organization also introduced employees linked insurance scheme in the year 2001 and under this scheme employee who dies during service period would get insurance cover of Rs 50000 to 75000. He said that till end of February 2007, total membership of the employee in Jammu division is 1,14,286 while in Kashmir it is 97,553. Similarly total amount received on account of recoveries till ending February 2007 is Rs. 65,76,827 in Jammu division while it is Rs 84,57,160 in Kashmir division, he said and added that total principal amount so invested in banks and other financial institutions is over Rs 700 crores. Deputy Commissioners EPF Jammu and Kashmir divisions, Inspectors and Senior Officers of the organization attended the meeting.
