| Justice Kawoos recommends Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia to a widow | | | JAMMU, MARCH 14 Justice M. Y. Kawoos, Chairman State Human Rights Commission has recommended the government to pay Rs. 2 lakh as ex-gratia in favour of a widow Smt. Agya Kour w/o late S. Kalayan Singh of Nanak Nagar, Jammu besides benefits under SRO-43. Disposed of the caste titled Smt. Agya Kour w/o Late S. Kalayan Singh R/O H. No. 522 Section-2 Nanak Nagar, Jammu wherein it has been revealed that S. Kalayan Singh husband of the complainant was working as Driver in State Transport Cooperation Department and had gone to Court as a witness on 25-03-1989 and was shot dead by unknown persons. The subject was the only sole bread earner of his family. Report was sought from Police Department. The report of the police corroborated the contents of the complaints filed by the complainant. They have also admitted the factum of killing of S. Kalayan Singh by unknown persons in the court premises. Complainant in his rejoinder gave some examples of Dr. Bhalla and Dr. Vijay Gupta both were also killed in Gandhi Nagar by some criminals and State has paid them compensation etc. Hon’ble Chairperson, recommended the government through its Chief Secretary to pay Rs. 2.00 lacs as ex-gratia relief in favour of the widow. Besides this benefit under the provision of SRO 43 be also given to one of the eligible members of the bereaved family. Hon’ble Justice also directs the government that action taken report be communicated to this Commission.
