Baig describes tourism as an enterprise of hope
Says tourism brings cultures, people closer

Srinagar, Aug 03 – Describing tourism as an enterprise of hope, Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig today said that the trade brings diverse cultures and people all across closer to each other. He said the people associated with tour and travel are ambassadors of civilization and brotherhood.
Inaugurating the first one-day conference of All India Tour and Travel Operators here today, Mr. Baig said tourism is sector more than just earnings and making livelihoods. He said tourism promotes contacts at people’s levels and synergises different cultures.
Reminding local tour operators of their responsibilities, the Deputy Chief Minister asked them to be factual, honest and never mislead while providing inputs to the intending tourists. He asked the members of the industry to stick to a self imposed set of guidelines for providing better facilities and services to the tourists adding that good behaviour is an investment in the industry. He said the local tour operators should instill confidence among the tourists
Referring to recent incidents of attacks on tourists, Mr. Baig described them as a blot on the traditional hospitality of Kashmir. He said processions were taken out against these incidents and the silent anger was given a word of protest. He appreciated the responsible positions taken by the respective state governments of West Bengal and Gujarat after tourist attacks. The West Bengal Tourism Minister said the bonds between the people of his state and Kashmir are time tested and said his Government stood by the people of Kashmir, Mr. Baig added.
Mr. Baig said Kashmir in near future is becoming an attraction of international repute and Government is improving upon the tourist infrastructure available in the state. He invited the delegates to invest in tourism infrastructure in J and K. He said many places in the world like Israel, Egypt and Sri Lank are most sought after tourist destinations despite the violence going on at these places.
Mr. Baig formally inaugurated the conference in a traditional style with liting of Isband in a Kangri(Kashmiri fire pot).
Present on the occasion were Tourism Secretary, Mr. Naeem Akhter, Director Tourism, Mr. Farooq Shah, Managing Director, JK TDC, Dr. G N Qasba and representatives of local and national tour and travel agencies.
In his address to the conference, Tourism Secretary, Mr. Naeem Akhtar said the day is of importance for Kashmir tourism as the captains of tour and travel industry have gathered for giving a new boost to the tourist flow to Kashmir. He appreciated the positive response tour operators of the country have shown towards Kashmir.
Earlier, in his speech, Secretary of Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India, Mr. Sanjay Saxena described Kashmir as mother of domestic tourism where the explorations of worldly and spiritual destinations superimpose. He appealed the media not to highlight violence incidents on daily basis as it sends wrong signals and perceptions about this lovely place.
