Udhampur Sept 12 : To aware the women masses about the Jammu & Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission under the local name "UMEED", a one day awareness cum interaction programme with women Self Help Groups was organized at Maantalai in tehsil Chenani of District Udhampur here today. While speaking on the occasion, the MLA Chenani, K.C. Bhagat thanked the J&K government by initiating this poverty alleviation Mission in block Chenani. He also hoped that this Mission would must prove successful to reduce the poverty in rural areas of this block by unleashing the potential of the poor households through their own organizations and also by enabling them to access skilled wage employment opportunity, gainful self employment opportunity and sustainable livelihoods, Commissioner Secretary Rural Development, Farooq Ahmed Peer, State coordinator NRLM,(GOI), Dr. Yogita Rana, DIG Udhampur Reasi Range,. Gareeb Dass, Director Rural Development,. Shafiq Raina, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal, , Members of women SHGs Sarpanchs, Panchs were present on the occasion. Earlier, highlighting the objectives of the Jammu & Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission, Commissioner Secretary Rural Development,. Farooq Ahmed Peer said that 'Umeed' initiative would prove highly significant for poverty alleviation in rural areas by enhancing their capacity of generating livelihood avenues. He further said that under the Mission economic empowerment results in women's ability to influence or make decision, increased self confidence, better status and role in household etc. He hoped that women through SHGs would give benefit not only to the individual women but also for the family and community as a whole through collective action for development. |
