| Govt has failed to fulfill its promises in toto in so many cases of Agreement 2008: Samiti | | | ET Report
Jammu, Sept 12: Fifth Death Anniversary of the Martyrs of 2008 Historic Shri Amar Nath Agitation is being observed by the Samiti on September 15(Sunday) at Geeta Bhawan, Parade Ground, Jammu and religious rituals will be performed to remember supreme sacrifice of the martyrs of land row. Meanwhile members have expressed anguish that the Govt has failed to fulfill its promises in toto in so many cases of the agreement. The programme will start with Havan at 9.00 a.m. with the participation of families of the martyrs families and office bearers of the Samiti while a solemn function will be held where a detail account of the agitation will be recalled and the supreme sacrifice by the Martyrs will be remembered with floral tributes. During the core committee meeting of the Sangarsah Samiti held recently under the chairmanship of its Convener Pawan Kohli, it was informed that Ashwani Sharma, MLA Bishnah will be the Chief Guest and Brig Suchet Singh will preside over the function on Sunday. During the meeting the members also discussed the agreement reached between the Samiti and the Govt in 2008 and members expressed anguish that the Govt has failed to fulfill its promises in toto in so many cases of the agreement. Further, it is only in few cases that the compensation to the families of the martyrs has been paid so far but in other cases, even after the lapse of five years, the victim families still await justice from the Govt side. Moreover there are certain criminal cases registered by the Police against certain participants in the agitation but these cases have not been withdrawn inspite of continued efforts by the Samiti with the Nodal Officer (Divisional Commissioner, Jammu) appointed by the Govt and the concerned Police Officers. Contrary to this the said participants are being harassed time and again without any genuine reason and their career in some cases, are being jeopardized. This is most condemnable. Members also criticized the Govt saying that it is not moving an inch forward to place Rs one crore at the disposal of the Chamber of Commerce Jammu for managing this amount for the livelihood of the members of Martyrs families, which was an essential component of the agreement. They also highlighted that other clauses of the agreement, inspite of having taken some administrative decisions, have not seen the light of the day. Samiti has appealed to people in general to participate in the function and to express solidarity with Martyrs families. |
