| BJP opposes power tariff hike move | | | JAMMU MARCH 14 Accusing government of diverting at least 63 per cent of the available energy to Kashmir without realizing the power tariff from the consumers there, the State unit of BJP described it ‘as a crime against the people of Jammu and Ladakh’ who are being forced to pay the tariff at exorbitant rate. The party, according to a hand out, has asked the government to stop this practice and made it clear that it (BJP) would not allow the PDD to hike power tariff and instead would force it to recover the tariff from nearly seven lakh households in Kashmir who are enjoying free of cost power since decades. The Party President Ashok Khauria said that PDD could not befool the Electricity Regularity Authority (ERA) to implement its anti people and anti-consumer decision and asked the ERA to out rightly reject the hike proposal and maintained that the party has no doubt that the department could save at least Rs.300 crore annually if it adopts a rational power procurement policy.
