RTI activists alleged concerned deptts not adhering to spirits of RTI Act

Rajouri, Sept 12: Rajouri based Right to Information (RTI) activists have once again alleged that multi crores scams has been figured in Social Welfare department but the concerned department has not responded to their queries as expected. Pertinently the RTI activists in Rajouri have been alleging that officials at helms of affairs in district Rajouri are not responding to their application for the last more than two years.
According to one RTI activist Jawaid Hussain, he had moved RTI application along with required fee to get some information pertaining to scholarships and pensions and distribution of relief etc in November,2012 but till date he had received no assertive response.
"After a wait for more than two months, I had approached the several officers of the department during last one year including district social welfare officer, Director Social Welfare, (who allegedly refused to accept the application) but the same was sent through speed post, he said adding, "But till date no response was received".
Finally he approached the State Information Commission (SIC) and still waiting for reply from his office.
Similar discouraging treatment was meted to another RTI activist Shieraz Ahmed who had sought information from director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) regarding more than 5000 fake ration cards in Rajouri district involving multi crore scams in distribution of ration.
Another RTI activist is still waiting for response to his plea filed in case of misappropriation of government funds to the tune of about Rs 50 lakhs in Pahari hostel at Rajouri.
RTI activists have applied to get the copy of the investigation report but till date was not provided. The RTI activists also approached the Chief Minister Grievances cell which instructed the district administration for the same.
State Information Commission was also approached and vide his office letter No.SIC/J/C/131-2012 and decision No SIC/J/C/131/2012-295 dt/19/9/2012 forwarded to Warden Pahari Hostel Rajouri.
"But despite every effort the district officials and Warden have not responded to the application and using delay tactics to provide the copy of the investigation report" said Shahnawaz secretary NGO for Social Justice.
Another applicant Mobin Ahmed and Jawaid Ahmed said that we have applied with ACD, Rural Development for information regarding funds misappropriations and fraudulent allotment of works by the department. After his denial the Director Rural Development was also contacted but the fate of RTI query remains the same.
"He also refused to provide information for the reasons best known to him" alleged Movin.
