Highway remains blocked, affected areas without power
50 tourist vehicles rescued, Shrine among 55 structures damaged

Inspite of improvement in weather conditions across the state, life remained crippled in may parts of Jammu and Kashmir. While the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the fourth consecutive day today, power supply was not restored in many affected areas of Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
Official sources said that the 300 Kilometer long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the fourth consecutive day today due to the landslides at various places between Ramban and Banihal.
BECON officials have pressed men and machinery in service to repair damaged stretches and clear landslides from the highway at Panthihal, Ramsu and Ramban.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Muhammad Hussian Budroo told News Agency of Kashmir that major portion of the road from Ramban to Panthihal has been cleared from the landslides but more work need to be done. “The work at Panthihal could not be taken up due to the shooting stones”, he added.
Number of areas in Kashmir division including Srinagar city was without power supply from Monday as the power development department failed to restore the supply due to the ongoing strike by its employees.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Basharat Dar said that electricity supply was restored in Baramulla, Kupwara and Anantnag towns and some areas in Srinagar today but many areas remained without electricity. “We have managed to restore the power supply upto Receiving Station at Srinagar but due to the damaged Low Transmission Lines and polls the restoration work may take some more time”.
Main roads to the district headquarters have been thrown open for traffic while work on other rods was in progress, he added.
Meanwhile, the power supply in some parts of Jammu division also remained affected for the second consecutive day today.
Reports reaching here revealed that newly created Kishtwar district and its adjoining areas remained without power supply as High Transmission Line has suffered heavy damage near Doda.
An official spokesman said that Police rescued 50 Tourist vehicles which were stranded due to heavy snow on Srinagar-Gulmarg.
Sub Divisional Police Officer Tangmarg Javeed Dar told News Agency of Kashmir that 50 tourist vehicles got stranded on Kunzar road due to heavy snow. Many trees had fallen down on the road, blocking the vehicles movement and the tourists were left on the mercy of climate. There were women and children in the vehicles who were without food and proper clothing and were in grave danger, he added.
On receiving information, a Police party from police station Kunzar led by SDPO Tangmarg reached to the spot and started clearing the road. Putting their own lives at risk, the policemen started cutting down the fallen trees and clearing the snow, he revealed.
He stated that inspite of complete darkness the road was cleared and 50 trapped tourist vehicles were rescued.
Meanwhile, police said that 54 houses and one Shrine suffered damages due to snowfall across Kashmir region.
As per an official spokesman, 24 houses, 14 sheds, two shops, nine kitchens and a Shrine were damaged in Srinagar alone while two houses and two sheds were damaged in Ganderbal, 9 houses in Pulwama and 16 houses in Pahalgam suffered damage due to heavy snow fall.
