Rs.63.75 lakh for augmenting irrigation, managing water bodies in Kupwara

Srinagar, August 03 - To augment the irrigation facility and manage water bodies in Kupwara district about Rs.63.75 lakh have been earmarked for the purpose during current financial year.
This was stated at a meeting of District-level Implementation Committee chaired by District Development Commissioner.
It was given out that so far 22 water bodies have been identified in the district and Rs.18.57 lakh spent on their maintenance during the last fiscal.
The District Development Commissioner underscored the need for involvement of locals, NGOs and Panchayats while implementing the scheme. Besides, he asked the concerned authorities to conduct awareness camps to acquaint the local population about the benefits of the scheme.
