| Hoteliers seek implementation of tourism projects | | | Jammu, March 14 All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association has rued government apathy in implementing various tourism related projects in Jammu region, about which assurances have been held at the highest level. A meeting of the hoteliers association held here today, under the Chairmanship of its President Inderjeet Khajuria conveyed its anguish over the government giving repeated assurances and making announcements about taking in hand soon of some highly potential tourism related projects in Jammu region, but doing nothing in practice to implement these assurances and announcements. The association brought on record its appreciation earlier about the concern express by the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad over Jammu city losing its importance and its trade suffering, particularly the tourism related trades, after the train reaches Katra and Jammu city loses its status as a gateway to the same. While the Chief Minister has repeatedly laid emphasis on developing Jammu city and its surroundings as independent tourist destination, nothing in practice has been done in this regard and various propose projects are being delayed inordinately, the hoteliers have complained. Demanding earliest implementation of three major tourism related projects in Jammu, as creation of an artificial lake in river Tawi, with provision for bathing gaths, walkways on one bank and light vehicular road on the other side, setting up of permanent base camp for Amarnath Yatra at the site already identified across main Tawi Bridge downside its left bank, where more than 400 kanals of land is available, remodeling of general bus stand Jammu, by making it multi storeyed, with provision for parking slot for light vehicles and shopping complex at one storey, the association has regretted apathy on the part of the government in taking these projects in hand at the earliest. The completion of these projects alone, can change the entire business scenario of Jammu city, with a large number of tourists and pilgrims from outside the state making their stay put in the winter capital of the state, for few days The association has also demanded that the much promised prestigious project of Heritage Complex in Mubarak Mandi premises, underground aquarium at Bagh-e-Bahu, Laying of ropeway between Mubarak Mandi and Bagh-e-Bahu and from there to Bahu Fort and Mahamaya hill top, expansion of Manda Wildlife Sanctuary be also taken up in hand and completed in record time, so that these become operational before the train reaches Katra. All these projects will offset to a great extent the loss likely to be suffered by Jammu city with train reaching Katra and pilgrims travelling direct to that town by passing Jammu city. Besides Inderjeet Khajuria the meeting was attended by Pawan Gupta, Gen Secretary, Ajay Gupta, Sr. Vice President, H. S. Manhas, Vice President, Ajay Suri, Secretary, Vikram Singh, Publicity Secretary, and Baldev, Treasurer. |
