CS for prompt response to people’s problems

Jammu, March 14
To take stock of relief and restoration measures initiated by the government to mitigate problems of people created due to incessant rains and snowfall, a high level meeting of civil and police officers was held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog.
The meeting was informed that in Jammu division five deaths have been reported due to weather hardships, whileas 168 animals have lost their lives and 114 houses have been damaged including 29 houses collapsed fully.
It was informed in the meeting that in Kashmir division power supply has been restored fully in all the vital institutions and work for restoring it in remaining affected areas is going on at war-footing. Barring Kishtwar area the power supply has been restored fully in Jammu division.
Regarding condition of roads it was stated that all inter district and inter tehsil roads are open for traffic.
Chief Secretary directed the concerned agency for constructing a temporary footbridge at Panthal where landslides have blocked traffic on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway so that transshipment of people from either side is ensured. Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone were asked to monitor the situation personally.
Chief Secretary was apprised that sufficient supply of essential items such as rice, sugar and atta, LPG, K. Oil are stocked in valley and there would not be any problem regarding shortage of foodgrains. He called for monitoring price line on regular basis so that unscrupulous traders and shopkeepers are prevented from profiteering and hoarding.
