Whether “In Power” or “Out of Power” it has now become a routine for all the politicians of the J&K state, irrespective of their political affiliations, to use red lights on their personal vehicles throughout despite clear cut directions of the High Court on the use of red light on vehicles. Meanwhile, Police authorities hesitate to initiate action against these erring politicians fearing backlash from them after their return to power.
Authoritative sources told “Early Times” on the condition of anonymity that almost all the politicians of the state, irrespective of their political affiliations, continue to use red lights on their vehicle despite knowing the fact that they are not authorized for the same. Even the sitting MLAs and MLCs are not even allowed to use red light on their vehicles, only those holding the position of ministers are authorized for using the same. Meanwhile, Police has remained on backfoot while dealing with such elements and so far nobody has been booked for such a violation. Inside sources revealed that orders have been passed from the top echelons of Police to the subordinates to restrain from going all out against fearing backlash from them after their return to power. It is to be mentioned that political fortunes are highly unpredictable and any of the political party can occupy the corridors of power after the change of regime. And Police officials tend to keep themselves out of hit list of politicians by avoiding action against them.
It is to be further mentioned that recently High Court have passed several strictures on the use of red lights on vehicles by the politicians and other important government officials. But the violation still continues to prevail under the watchful eyes of Police authorities.
