| China illegally occupies part of J&K territory: Pranab | | No joint operations with Pakistan against terrorism | | NEW DELHI, MAR 15 India has no plans to encourage or launch joint military operations with Pakistan against terrorism in Kashmir. If there was any doubt about it, it was set at rest by the Minister of External Affairs, Pranab Mukherjee in the Lok Sabha. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member, Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu, asked if New Delhi had ansy proposal for joint military operations with Pakistan against terrorism in Kashmir. Pranab Mukherjee replied in the negative. He said that an India-Pakistan anti-terrorism instituional mechanism had been put in place to identify and implement counter-terrorism initiatives and investigations. Elaborating, the External Affairs Minister said that while the joint anti-terrorism mechanism, better known as ATM, met in Islamabad this March 6 and 7, the two sides agreed that specific information would be exchanged through the mechanism for helping investigations on either side related to terrorist acts and prevention of violence and terrorist acts in the two countries. Mukherjee added that it was also agreed that while ATM would meet on a quarterly basi, any information which is required to be conveyed on priority basis would immediately be conveyed through respective heads of the ATM. On India-China boundary dispute, Pranab Mukherjee informed the House that the twe countries "are pursuing an early setlement" of the boundary question as a strategic objective. While the 9th round of talks between the Special Representatives of India and China was held in New Delhi from January 16 to 18 this year, the next round of discussions betwen the two sides at a mutually convenient time which would be decided through diplomatic channel. Responding to a question by Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and two others, Mukherjee said that China continued to be in illegal ocupation of about 38,000 sq. km in the Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir. This apart, under the Sino-Pakistan boundary agreement of 1963, Pakistan illegally ceded 5,180 sq. km of Indian territory in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to China, Mukherjee added. Nor is it all. China, to quote Pranab Mukherjee, "illegally claims" about 90,0000 sq. km of Indian territory in India's eastern sector. In the middle sector, China, Mukherjee said, "illegally claims" about 2,000 sq. km of Indian territory.
