Show of strength; PDD employees hold really
'Strike to continue across state'
3/15/2007 10:36:46 PM
Jammu, Mar 15:
A day after chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad warned the striking employees of Power Development Department (PDD) to return to their duties or face stern action; employees hold a massive protest rally in winter capital of the state sending clear signal to the government that the union was not ready to budge before any pressure.
Organised by Jammu and Kashmir central PDD-Non Gazetted Employees Forum, the rally commenced at Janipur Power House this morning and culminated at Indra chowk Jammu.
Addressing the rally, President Jammu Kashmir central Non-Gazetted Power Employees Forum Rafiq Ahmed Khanyari said that the statement issued by the chief minister was nothing more than pressure tactics aimed at creating panic among employees.
He said that the members of all the power unions have been asked to cooperate with the administration so as to meet with the crises. “All our employees are working for the restoration of power supply so that our respected consumers do not suffer” he said adding that the strike will continue across the state till the listed demands are not conceded.
“We have been pressing for these demands for years but the concerned authorities do not seem to be concerned towards our plights”, he said adding, “We are among the sufferers of this situation but strike is last resort for us”, He added.
He claimed that the employees on strike have resumed their duties for the sake of disaster management for the sake of people. “We will not call off our strike, let the government do what it feels just”, he adds.
It is pertinent to mention that chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad while taking strict posture, yesterday asked the striking employees of Power Development Corporation to resume their work within 24 hours or face stern action. However, terming the CM’s statement as `pressure tactics’, the PDD employees union refused resume work till their long pending demands are fulfilled.
However, despite the clear message from the CM, the power employees refused to call off their strike. They however asked their caders to help administration in restoration of power.
