| Peerzada for intensifying efforts to provide succour to people | | | Anantnag, March 15 At the instance of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister for Education, Hajj and Auqaf Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed today took stock of the damages as also measures taken to cope up with the situation arising due to recent snowfall in Anantnag district at an officers meeting here today. District Development Commissioner Mr. G.A. Peer while giving details about the damages caused due to snowfall informed that crops over 10,000 hectares have been damaged in the district while power supply has also been affected. He said damage has also been caused to several roads. Snow has been cleared from 90 percent roads in the district while power supply to most areas has been restored. Efforts are also on to restore power supply to Kulgam, Qazigund and Kokernag areas. Stocks including 27,000 quintals rice, 2300 quintals atta, 800 quintal sugar, 2 lakh liltres k-oil and 10,000 LPG cylinders are available which are sufficient to cater consumer requirements for 15 days. Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed exhorted the authorities to undertake extensive tour of the district to assess damages caused due to the snowfall. He directed for undertaking sustained drive of markets to check hoarding and profiteering. He stressed need for intensifying efforts to provide succour to people in the hour of need.
