| Three Rope ways coming up to boost pilgrim tourism | | Dilawar calls for institutionalization of Cable Car Corporation | | Jammu, March 15 Jammu & Kashmir Government today in principle decided to construct a Fixed Grip Chairlift (Ski Lift) at a cost of Rs. 8 crore at Kangdori to develop Gulmarg as an International Ski Resort. Besides, two ropeways at sacred religious places of Aishmuqam, Shankra Acharya and Makdoom Sahib in Kashmir and Mubarik Mandi to Bahu Fort in Jammu are also being constructed during the next fiscal to promote pilgrim tourism in the state in a big way. This was decided at the 25th meeting of the Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Tourism, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir. Principal Secretary Planning and Development Mr. S. S. Kapoor, Commissioner Secretary Finance, Mr. B. B. Vyas, Secretary Tourism, Mr. Nayeem Akhter, MD J&K Cable Car Corporation Mr. Nazir Ahmed, Director Tourism Kashmir, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Shah, Director Tourism Jammu, Mr. Ajay Khajuria were present in the meeting. The meeting also decided to explore possibilities for acquiring International consultency for the overall development of Gulmarg including installation of a funicular Ropeway at Apharwat, the top station of Gulmarg Gondola project to make fascinating Alpather Lake accessible to the visitors. The meeting was informed that Winter Games Federation of India is bidding to hold international Ski Race at Gulmarg during the next winter. It was also informed that the project cost for Ropeway at Shankeer Acharya, Srinagar and Makhdoom Sahib has been worked out of the order of Rs. 28 crore and Rs. 5 crore respectively whereas the project cost for ropeway from Mubarik Mandi to Bagh-e-Bahu would be Rs. 24 crores. The Board also approved Insurance cover for employees and workers working in the Cable Car Corporation. The Board also approved working hours for Skiing activities at Gulmarg during next winter season and rates for domestic and foreign Skiers for Gulmarg Gandola Phase-I and Phase-II. As per the calendar approved by the board. The Skiing activities at Gulmarg shall start from 21st December 2007 during which the Gulmarg Gandola Project shall remain functional from 9.30 to 4.30 p.m. The Skiers would be provided Gondola passes on concessional rates. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister called for updating of the balance shift of the Corporation. He Minister asked the management of the corporation to invest savings of the Corporation into revenue generating activities. He also instructed for adopting a transparent and institutional mechanism for execution of development works of the Corporation.
