Folk media workshop held

Jammu, Sept 24: The second phase of the four day state level folk media workshop was inaugurated here today.
This effort to train folk groups for spreading HIV/AIDS message in the remote areas of J&K state was inaugurated in the first stage by Dr. Madhu Khullar, Project Director J&K State AIDS Control Society at Srinagar.
This workshop, first of its kind is being organized jointly by National AIDS Control Society, Delhi, J&K State AIDS Control Society and Govt. College for Women, Parade, Jammu.
Welcoming the Consultant IEC, National AIDS Control Organization experts and participants of the workshop, Deputy Director IEC, JKSACS, Deepika B. Thakur highlighted the significance of holding the workshop for folk groups. She also highlighted the vital role of folk in bringing uniformity and clarity in spreading the message of HIV/AIDS, the cultural way especially to rural masses.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Sanjib K. Chakravarty, IEC Consultant, National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), GOI, who had specially come here for training the Folk Troupes gave a detailed presentation about the role and duties of these groups which shall be performing in front of the people especially in rural areas about the ways and means of preventing and controlling the deadly disease of HIV/AIDS.
He also explained about the role and expectation from the District Resource Persons/ Nodal Officers, who had been specially nominated from all the districts to attend this workshop.
He also emphasized on developing a script for the same involving different folk forms of the region so that the message of HIV/AIDS is complete and informative and reaches out to the people in their own language and culture in different corners of the State.
Others present on the occasion from JKSACS were Abdul Rashid Khan, CAO, Risheesh Khajuria, Asstt. Dir, Rajesh Sharma, CLS, Imtiyaz Khan, CLS.
