JAMMU, Sept 25: Beating the same opponent in Government College for Women (GCW) Parade in a one-sided contest (18-04) in the final, the Post Graduate (PG) Departments retained the women's basketball trophy.
The event was organised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Police Stadium, Gulshan ground, here today.
Sangita Bhatt and Amarpreet Kour were the star performers from the winning PG Departments team while Sonia and Sapna defended well from GCW Parade.
In the final, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. NK Tripathi was chief guest, who gave away winners' trophy to the PG Departments. He was accompanied by Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau. Prominent among others present were Jai Bharat, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Vikas Karlopia, Ravish Vaid and Sanjeev Jamwal.
Meanwhile, in men's basketball, Government MAM College and PG Departments today made it to the final. The final is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 9.30 am at the same venue.
Earlier, in the semifinals, MAM College defeated GGM Science College 32-18. Sachin and Karan played outstanding game from the wining side.
Similarly, in the second semifinal, PG Departments trounced Government SPMR Commerce College 43-05. Amit Sharma and Pankaj were highest scorers from PG Departments, who helped the side make it a one-sided contest.
Today's matches were officiated by the technical penal including Aman Sharma, Amarjit Singh, Mohd Shafi, Rajinder Magotra, Shaktish Chopra, Rajesh Bandral and Nisha Sharma. |
