New Delhi, Mar 15 The government is aware of the reports of plight of Hindu community in Pakistan and Bangladesh, Rajya Sabha was informed today.
In a reply, Minister of External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee said according to the census conducted in 1998, there were 24,43,614 Hindus in Pakistan out of a total population of 13,23,52,279.
In Bangladesh, according to National Report (Provisional) on Population census 2001, the number of Hindus was 1,13,79,000 - about 9.2 per cent of the total population.
In another reply, the House was informed that there was no policy of compensation to the families of those killed by militant groups abroad.
However, suitable assistance is provided to the families of victims if such incidents comes to light, the ministry said.
