| JU to have Book Bank for Gujjar students | | Seminar on ‘Gujjar Youth-Role & challenges Ahead’ held | | Jammu, March 15 Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan has said that state government led by Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad is taking adequate steps for upliftment of Gujjar community and unattended areas are being given special attention in respect of development of these areas. The Minister was addressing one-day seminar on ‘Gujjar Youth-Role and Challenges Ahead’ at MCA Conference Hall at Jammu University today. The seminar was organized by All J&K Gujjar and Bakarwal Students Federation of Jammu University. The seminar was also addressed by ex-Member Parliament, Ch. Talib Hussain, Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, ex-Advocate General Mr. Aslam Goni and Mr. Athaj Abdul Gani. Mr. Khan said that many initiatives have been taken by the government for providing development opportunities to Gujjar community and till date ignored pockets living in inaccessible areas of the state would be given priority. Referring to government policy regarding reservation of the community under schedule caste and schedule tribe category, the Minister said that steps are being taken for its proper implementation and due share in respect of development sector would also be extended to the community shortly. Speaking about the educational facilities to Gujjar students, Mr. Aijaz said that female drop out ratio would be reduced by extending all possible assistance and encouragement to deprived female students. He said the UPA under the dynamic leadership of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is determined for upliftment of Dalits under SC and ST category. On this occasion, Mr. Aijaz announced setting up of Book Bank for poor and deserving students of Gujjar community. The Minister donated his share as a mark of beginning of the Bank and Mr. Abdul Gani Kohli was the second important person who contributed for this noble cause. Prof. Amitabh Mattoo announced Gojri certificate course of 3-month in Jammu University as a first step for popularizing Gojri language and its research. He impressed for involvement of gujjar girl students in research projects on life style, culture and heritage of gujjar community. Mr. Mattoo called upon gujjar students to conduct a subjective survey and submit its findings upto May this year for formulation of policies in the interest of this community.
