| Azad emphasizes for spread of rich health facilities in all parts of J&K State | | | Jammu, March 16 Stressing the need for large scale public-private partnership in the projects aimed at wider public benefits, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said present socio-economic scenario calls for enhanced symbiotic relations between private investors and the government in launching joint projects. He was chairing a high level officers meeting to discuss ways and means for roping in private investors in joint ventures for establishment of super-specialty healthcare facilities in the state, here on Thursday. Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister of State for Health Peer Mohammad Hussain, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog, Principal Secretary Planning and Development Mr. S. S. Kapoor, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Anil Goswami, Commissioner/Secretary Finance Mr. B. B. Vyas, Secretary Health and Medical Education Mr. K. B. Jandial and other senior officers were present on the occasion. Chief Minister said that culture of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in realizing development goals has gained considerable momentum every where. “This arrangement is proving fruitful and yield-oriented results”. Chief Minister said that apart from power sector, health and medical discipline promises greater scope and feasibility for public-private partnership. This arrangement at one hand would yield tremendous high class healthcare facilities to the people in the state and on the other investors get good returns for their spending, he said. Mr. Azad said while government is interested in extending basic public service facilities especially healthcare to the people in every area especially rural and far-flung places, private partners in joint ventures could play vital role and seek economic benefits for themselves alongwith ensuring public benefits. He said modern medical science has advanced rapidly and excels in every respect day by day. “We have to manage establishment of super-specialty hospitals with modern medicare facilities, surgical competence and diagnostic capabilities of par-excellence alongwith hospitals to take care of routine health problems. A sound and healthy public-private partnership will be important milestone in this direction”, he maintained. Chief Minister directed the health and medical education authorities and the administrative secretaries concerned to draw a balanced, public-friendly and viable strategy in initiating PPP in the state in health sector. This would provide edifice for enhancing ambit of activities jointly by the government and private investors and other sectors, he said. Mr. Azad said officers while conceiving public-private projects should bear in mind the public interests and benefits that could accrue to people by launching such projects. “Our main concern should be public service facilities for which supporting hand could be extended to private partnership in the development projects. Chief Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir is a state which provides greater field of activities for industrialists in various sectors especially in health sector. Joining hands with government to launch ventures of public importance could prove fruitful to both the partners. |
