| PAC discusses power scenario in State, asks for affective measures | | | Jammu, March 16 Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Legislative Assembly, has directed the Power Development Department to initiate measures to improve power situation in the State so that people do not suffer for want of adequate supply of electricity. PAC that met here today under the chairmanship of MLA Mr. Ajay Kumar Sadhotra reviewed the functioning of PDD. The Committee also examined the audit paras of CAG’s Report for the year 1997-98, 2002-03 and 2003-03 pertaining to the Department. In today’s meeting the Committee examined audit para No. 4.5, 4.6 and held threadbare discussion on the issues containing in the paras. The para 4.5 under discussion pertaining to supply of six number of 16.66 MVA, single phase power transformers for Grid Station Pampore by the BHEL, Bhopal. The said supplies were received by the department in March 1986 at a cost of Rs. 85.50 lakh. Out of six transformers one proved faulty and the transformer could not be put in use for many years for want of some more accessories. The matter remained inconclusive and Committee asked for more details on the subject to ascertain and pin point responsibility of such lapse that led to loss on exchequer. The Committee opined that the department should make purchases in such a way that after procurement, equipment is put to use immediately. Those present in the meeting included legislators, Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil, Mr. S.W.Narboo, Mr. A.G.Malik, Mr. Sharm Lal Sharma, Mr. Javed Rana, Ms. Sakina Ittoo, Accountant General J&K Ms. Gazala Meenai, Special Secretary PDD, Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Chief Engineer, M&RE, Jammu, Director Accounts and Treasuries Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Khandey and Additional Secretary Assembly Mr. Mohammad Ramzan.
