| Rural areas facing shortage of ECs | | | Jammu, Mar 16 Acute shortage of essential commodities has gripped rural areas of district Udhampur and Doda in the backdrop of closure of roads leading to these areas. The worst affected areas are Banihal, Ramban, Kishtwar in Doda District and Mohre, Gool Gulab Garh and Arnas in Udhampur district. Banihal and Ramban tehsils, located on the Jammu -Srinagar National Highway is worst affected are cutoff from rest of the state for last about one week are facing acute shortage of essential commodities including K-oil and food grains”. “People are facing acute shortage of essential commodities even in the Banihal town not to say of the far flung areas,” said Vikar Rasool Municipal Committee president Banihal while talking to NAK on telephone. Similar reports are pouring in from the far flung areas including Kishtwar, Bhalesa and Chatroo of District Doda and Mohare, Gool, Arnas and Gulab Garh areas of district Udhampur. All main road links connecting major regions of the state including Kashmir Valley were closed on Sunday after heavy rains and snow lashed this part of the country. The fresh land slides at the trouble spot Panthihal resulted in blocking of National Highway, which according to authorities would take two more days to clear it for traffic. Besides shortage of essential commodities, Power supply continued to remain disrupted for the fourth day in most of the towns of Jammu division.
