| Cong appears unfazed by PDP threats to pull out | | | NEW DELHI: Ahead of PDP leader Mufti Mohd Sayeed's meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress appears unfazed by threats by its coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir to pull out of the Government.
At the same time, the ruling party in the state and at the Centre does not want to rub its ally the wrong way and is against giving any impression that it was bent on hurting its ally in any way.
With Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad expressing himself strongly against any reduction of troops or demilitarisation, the party has given a clear signal that there was no question of any compromise on the issue of national security.
The word going around in Congress circles was that the Azad government would be sitting pretty even in the extreme event of PDP pulling the rug from under its feet in the key state.
Azad government would continue to enjoy majority in the 89-member House even if Mufti's party walks away, party sources say.
They say that Sayeed and the PDP have been shaken by a series of important decisions taken by the Azad Government which has hit it of well with the people and the coalition partner started feeling uncomfortable over the rising graph of the Congress.
The refrain in the Congress is that no party, national or regional, could raise security-related issues which are decided by the Centre keeping in view the overall situation, the sources said.
