| Bhagat alleges bungling in NREGs works | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | MAR 20 Alleging that all norms have been flouted in the implementation of National rural Employment Gurantee Scheme (NREGS), BJP has demanded high level inquiry into the implementation of this scheme in Doda district. State BJP Gen. Secretary and former MLA, Ramban, Bali Bhagat said that poor people have not been engaged on works and the same have been allotted to contractors violating norms. Quoting instances, he charged that works worth crores of rupees have been allotted even in Ramban area to blue-eyed contractors by Rural Development Department. He alleged that job cards of labourers have been prepared by the department but in many cases these have been kept with department functionaries themselves to draw fictitious bills and the actual beneficiaries are being paid wages of 4 to 5 days instead of 100 days as a is mandatory under this scheme. He demanded that thought inquiry be conducted in the matter.
