| BJP LEADERS MEET GOVERNOR, DEMAND IMPOSTION OF GOVERNOR’S RULE UNDER ARTICLE 92 | | | Jammu | March 20 The state unit of the BJP has demanded imposition of the Governor’s rule under Article 92 of the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir in view of breakdown in the constitutional machinery in the state. According to official sources, the demand was made during a meeting of senior BJP leaders, led by the President, Mr Ashok Khajuria,with the Governor, Mr S.K.Sinha, in the Raj Bhawan here today. The BJP leaders during their meeting highlighted the total breakdown in the constitutional machinery and also informed the Governor that the “entire state administration had been paralysed because of the rift between the PDP and the Congress resulting in deep uncertainty.” A senior BJP leader when contacted said that the ruling coalition has lost the confidence of the state Assembly and it is opportune time for Governor to step in to resolve the constitutional crisis. He said a key ally in the ruling coalition has started functioning as an opposition party, under such circumstances one cannot expect functioning of the Government in tune with the provisions of the constitution.” He said that since 2002 Assembly election the ruling coalition had hijacked the separatists’ agenda which had the potential of “taking Jammu and Kashmir away from the country.” He said “the current situation reflected internal sabotage. ” The BJP leader said that in order to “arrest the dangerous trend the state be placed under the Governor’s rule to be followed by fresh elections.” |
