Vakil fires his salvo against Mufti by demanding PDP minister’s resignation.
3/20/2007 10:22:53 PM
Jammu | March 20
The state unit of the Congress has urged four cabinet ministers, belonging to the PDP, to hang their boots because their continued absence from the cabinet meetings had affected the functioning of the state Government.
Vice president of the Congress, Mr Abdul Gani Vakil, said here in Jammu on Tuesday “the PDP ministers should immediately resign if they are not interested in attending the cabinet meetings.” ”Let the cabinet meetings be a smooth affair and let it decide people-oriented matters expediously,”he said.
Mr Vakil said “there should be no compromise with the PDP on its demand for demilitarization.” He said “compromise on such an issue was out of question because the security of the country was involved.” In reply to a question regarding the hardened stand taken by Chief Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, on demilitarization, soon after having met Prime Minister,Dr Manmohan Singh, the Congress vice-president said “Mr Azad’s remarks are not out of hat. He would not have aired his views on a ticklish issue without having received a nod from the PMO.”
In reply to another question Mr Vakil said “we do not need even outside support from the PDP.Let the PDP quit the Government and they will see how administrative matters flow smoothly.” He claimed that “once the PDP is out of the coalition we can demonstrate our majority on the floor of the House.”
He said the Congress is amazed by the way the PDP leadership has raked up, with vigour, the demand for demilitarization and the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. He said when Mufti Mohd.Sayeed remained Chief Minister for first three years he did not raise the demand for withdrawal of troops even when he had claimed that the level of militancy related violence in the state had declined when compared to the level that existed during the rule of the National Conference.
Raising his voice Mr Vakil said “when the Mufti was the Union Home Minister he was instrumental in the induction of additional companies of troops and paramilitary forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The Mufti was instrumental in getting Mr Jagmohan appointed as Governor of the state which deepend security and political crisis.”
The Congress leader also claimed that when the Mufti meets the Prime Minister he will fail to get any concession.
