Youth Red Cross Unit inaugurated in GCW Gandhi Nagar

Jammu branch of Indian Red cross Society in collaboration with the Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar in an impressive function today inaugurated the Red Cross Youth unit in the college.
While speaking on the occasion, Minister for social welfare Hazi Nissar Ali, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that youth represent a substantial part of the membership of Red Cross for its humanitarian commitment and the young volunteers can make a contribution in meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people with in their local communities through Red Cross youth programs.
The YRC youth unit aims to have young people recognized by societies leadership as equal partners who address the needs of the most vulnerable. He said that there are many welfare schemes for the welfare of the poor people and he would like the youth volunteers to reach out to the unreached and help them in minimizing their sufferings. He also appreciated the initiative taken by the Jammu District Branch of the Red Cross under the guidance of H.K.Singh, DDC Jammu. He announced all possible help in every good activity undertaken by the society.
N.D. Wani, the guest of honor, on this occasion welcomed the initiative taken by the Red Cross Society and said that these units should be established in all the colleges.
Dinesh Gupta, Executive secretary of the branch said that the YRC programs are mainly focus on: Promoting life, encourage community service, to disseminate the seven fundamental principles of Red Cross, to promote international friendship, technical support in the development of youth programs, and to organize trainings, workshops, short courses on disaster management and first aid and home nursing.
Prof. Veena Gupta, principal of college assured all possible help in making the YRC unit very active and efficient. Vote of thanks was presented by Mahesh Gupta, coordinator YRC.
