| FOUR LeT TERRORISTS KILLED : GALLANT CAPTAIN LAYS DOWN LIFE | | | Jammu | Mar 20 Four hardcore terrorists were gunned down at village Choti Margi, two kms from Takipura in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. Based on the specific information about the presence of terrorists in the village a joint operation between 2 PARA (SF), Rashtriya Rifles and STF Kupwara was launched in the wee hours of 20 Mar 2007. The terrorists had taken shelter in group of two to three houses of Choti Margi.
Captain Harshan R, in true tradition of Army, was leading his troops while establishing the inner cordon around the group of houses. The terrorists being at a place of advantage, started firing at the approaching officer at 0350hrs. Captain, along with his buddy L/Nk Bhawan Singh, immediately retaliated the fire and blocked the exit of the hideout thus trapping terrorists inside. Displaying cool courage and presence of mind, the young officer along with his buddy crawled towards the hideout. The fire fight continued for a long time from a very close quarter. The Captain and his buddy got critically injured during the initial fire fight. Despite being seriously wounded both these gallant soldiers thwarted all efforts by terrorists to escape and killed three hardcore terrorists in a fierce encounter.
In the meanwhile, civilians in the village informed about presence of other terrorists in the area. Detailed search of the area was organized as the day broke. One more terrorists was located hiding in side a house. He was told to surrender, however he opened indiscriminate fire on own troops, which was effectively retailed by own troops killing the terrorist.
The killed terrorists has been identified as Abdul Rehman, Battalion Commander of LeT in Lolab. The identification of others is being ascertained, Four AK-47 Rifles and large quantity of other war like stores have been recovered from the possession of the terrorists. Late Captain Harshan R and L/Nk Bhawan Singh attained martyrdom serving the nation with the highest traditions of the Army.
