| Nandigram haunts Par again, both Houses adjourn repeatedly | | | New Delhi, Mar 20 A determined opposition continued to corner Left parties in Parliament on the Nandigram issue for the fifth consecutive day today, forcing frequent adjournments of both Houses.
The Lok Sabha was thrown into pandemonium when Leader of the Opposition L K Advani sought to raise an adjournment motion over what he termed as "failure" of the Central Government to "prevent state terror and brutal violence let loose on farmers in West Bengal".
Advani's action brought instant protests from Left parties and Speaker Somnath Chatterjee observed that Deputy Speaker had already ruled that law and order was a state subject and could not be discussed in the House.
This saw a clash between the opposition and Left members with the Speaker, who presided over the proceedings after a gap of four days due to indisposition, adjourning the House again till 1600 hours.
Earlier, the House was adjourned till noon as soon as it met for the day.
In Rajya Sabha, similar scenes were witnessed when it reassembled at noon after the first adjournment.
In the midst of uproar and slogan-shouting, papers and reports were laid.
In the din, the National Tax Tribunal (Amendment) Bill, 2007 was passed by a voice vote without debate.
Sensing the unrelenting mood of opposition members, Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan adjourned the House till 1400 hours.
