| Modern history written under the influence of Nationalism: Dr. Kamtekar | | Two lakh poor Indian youth joined the Army voluntarily during Second World War | | Jammu / Aug 3 “Modern history biased and written under the influence of Nationalism, which is an intoxicant for our knowledge”, said Dr. Indivar Kamtekar of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Dr. Kamtekar was delivering a lecture on “State Power and Class: India in the Second World War” in Jammu University under the benchmark lecture series on contemporary social sciences here today. The lecture was focused on the late colonial state power in India and its relationships with various social classes in India, which were revealed by its management of Indian society during the Second World War. In his lecture, Dr. Kamtekar made the comparison between the governance in India and Britain during the days of Second World War by Britishers and its impact on the social classes of both the nations. He revealed that the privileges enjoyed by upper class of Colonial India were out of bound for the upper class of Britain during the war days. And approximately two lakh poor youths voluntarily joined the Army during Second World War Youths in Britain had to join the Army compulsorily irrespective of their background but, in India the situation was entirely contrasting. And directly or directly the rich classes of India exploited the situation well. He also revealed that the expenditure was increased more than three times in India after the war. Food prices were increased by 300 percent in India as compare to 18 percent in India. According to him, war proved out to be boom for the peasants of Punjab and unemployment problem was also vanished for the next one decade. War produced both victims and beneficiaries and the number of causalities suffered by India was mere 30,000 which was much lower than others. Impact of Second World War was totally contrasting in both the nations, he added. |
