R.S PURA | AUGUST 3
If we leave aside the talk of books and stories, there are no longer celebrations over the war memorial witness, except the scared ‘India Gate’
Whenever the question of martyrdom arises, J&K is the first state which penetrates into every one’s mind and in J&K R.S.Pura is the only tehsil among others which has sacrificed Maximum number of soldiers, for the security of the nation. One ‘memorial’ can be witnessed at a distance of every five miles, in the villages of R.S.Pura like Abdal, Gharana, Suchetgarh, Treva, Abduliyan etc. All these martyrs laid down their lives whether it was Kargil war, or wars of 1947,1962,1965,1971 or the ongoing war against terrorism.
But irony of the fate is that all the memorials are in pathetic conditions. The pain does not stop here henceforth the families of these martyr who belonged to Army, police and other security forces have not got any relief and those who got relief they didn’t get any war memorial raised in the same of their nears and dears to died while fighting anti-national forces. When ‘Early Times’ took an insight into this matter it came to fore that whatsoever number of such memorials of martyr’s without any assistance from state government or central government on the days of national importance some local leaders and people gives tributes to them. One more deporable thing emerged when martyer Satpaul’s father Munshi Ram and mother Ratna Devi R/o Chholla said that still they are seeking for the pension raised a memorial of their son on their own ( Satpaul was a sleuth of J&K police appointed in Poonch sector embraced martyrdom while giving resistance to militants).
In a similar case, martyr Sain Dass R/o R.S.Pura Ward No.5, who was a soldier of ITBP laid his life while fighting terrorism. After his martyrdom his family was assured of a job for one person, that commitment has not yet been fulfilled by government. Her mother while speaking to Early Times aid that government has not even built any memorial in his remembrance. Meanwhile Gyan Chand, who was appointed in Defence Security Corp and sacrificed his life on 9th January 1994 in Avantipura Sector, Srinagar at Airport while fighting with terrorists. His son Kishore Kumar said that govt. had committed to grant him a job at that teem but now he has got nothing.
This is not the only story of some families rather there are numerable number of such families who are bound to survive in pathetic conditions after the departure f their loved ones who sacrificed their lives for the nation. On the one hand we are engrossed in celebration of Independence Day but on the other hand, the souls of martyr soldiers must be hurted by the attitude of government in particular an nation in general for which they stake their lives.
