2nd Martyr’s Memorial Hockey Tourney
Punjab Police and P&S Bank clashes for title trophy.

Last year finalist once again in the final of the Martyr’s Hockey Tournament being played at K.K. Hakhu Astro Turf Hockey Stadium. Both the teams from Punjab cornered their opponents in the semis here today and clash in the final for trophy.
In the first semifinal being played here, Punjab Police thrashed CISF by three goals to nil. Jugraj Singh, International player scored first for his team in the 12th minute of the match by penalty corner. The first half score was one goals to nil in favour of Punjab Police.
CISF players tried their best to break the defense of the Punjab Police but can’t be able to do it.
The second half started in an impressive way by Punjab Police and Gurjant Singh in the 38th minute of the match scored the fine field goal and made the lead two goals to nil. Punjab Police got another penalty corner in the 51st minute of the match and Kamalpreet Singh converted it into goal. By taking the lead of three goals Punjab Police played defensive hockey in the last ten minutes and at the end they won the match by registering themselves for title clash.
Sheikh Owis Ahmed (IPS), IGP Armed was the chief guest in the match. The match officials were Varinder Singh, Satvir Singh, T.S. Negi, V.K. Kohli and Sham Lal.
The second semifinal was played between Punjab and Sind Bank versus Delhi XI. In the keenly contested match, Punjab and Sind Bank trounced Delhi XI by one goal and entered the final. The only goal scored in the first half of the match by Parminder Singh in the 26th minute. Delhi XI got two penalty corners in the 36th and 47th minutes of the match but went wasted. In the sixteenth minute of the match Punjab and Sind Bank got the first penalty corner of the match but was saved by wicket-keeper. In the 62nd and 63rd minutes they got two successive penalty corners but were unable to convert them into goals.
P.S. Gill (ADGP), Armed Police was the chief guest whereas A.R. Khan, IGP Traffic was the guest of honour. Others prominent present on the occasion were Shiekh Mehmood, Jhangir Khan, Gulzar Singh Slathia, etc.
The match was officiated by Sarabjit Singh, Amar Singh Negi, M.S. Reen, Jasbir Singh and Ravinder Singh. The final match will be played today at 3pm and Chief Minister of the State as the Chief Guest.
