| Government has adopted multi dimensional approach to contain militancy, Jaiswal | | ‘82 Infiltration attempts took place between Nov- Jan’ | | JAMMU March 21 To neutralize and contain the terrorist activities, the Centre has adopted a multi-dimensional approach and extended full support to the State Governments, said Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal today. Replying to a question of Dr K Malaisamy and SPM Syed Khan in the Rajya Sabha today, Jaiswal said that the measures taken to contain militancy included strengthening of border management, galvanizing the intelligence machinery, ensuring improved technology, weaponry and equipment for security forces, both at the Centre and in the States, and also undertaking well coordinated intelligence based operations. ‘Steps have also been taken to achieve bilateral and multilateral cooperation to deal with the menace of terrorism’, he said and added that ‘the Government has been consistently taking up the issue of cross border terrorism with Pakistan in bilateral mechanism set up for the purpose’, an official hand out said. Replying to another question, Jaiswal said that there has been decline in infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir during the last year compared to 2005. He said up to October last year, 515 incidents of infiltration took place against 540 during the corresponding period in 2005 and maintained that terrorist infrastructure across the border continues to remain in tact. He further informed the Rajya Sabha that during November 2006 to January this year, 82 infiltration incidents took place adding that 31 security personnel lost their life in Jammu and Kashmir during this period.
