| CM personally monitors measures taken by administration in flood affected areas | | Visits interior of Shehri-khass, Nowhata, Batamaloo, Lasjan, Budgam, other flood affected areas | | Srinagar, March 21 Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad today early in morning flew to Srinagar to assess the flood situation that has arisen due to incessant rains in Kashmir valley. Soon after arriving in Srinagar, the Chief Minister visited several flood-affected areas and took stock of the arrangements made by the administration. He visited Lasjan, Bye-Pass, Nowgam, Sonawar, Batamaloo, Rainawari, Nowhatta and several other localities. The Chief Minister chaired a high level meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar to review the measures taken by the divisional administration to cope up with the situation resulting due to continuous rains. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Mr. Basharat Ahmad informed the meeting about the steps taken by the administration to provide succour to the people in this hour of need. He said boats have been dispatched to various affected areas and sand bags in adequate numbers are available at various district headquarters. He said flood control rooms have been established in all districts of the valley which are working round the clock. He said some people of low lying areas in Khan Sahib and Pulwama have been shifted to safer places who are being provided free ration. He said five Kilograms rice would be provided free of cost to every ration holder in the marooned areas. The Chief Minister directed the authorities to immediately start dewatering in low-lying areas. He instructed the Fire and Emergency Services to keep available pump sets for dewatering. He asked the concerned to keep the heating system on in all the major hospitals till March 31, 2007 in view of the cold weather conditions. Mr. Azad instructed the PHE authorities to ensure potable water to the people and called for pressing into service water tankers for the purpose. He asked the CA&PD department to ensure availability of food grains, kerosene and LPG in the flood affected areas. IGP, Kashmir Mr. S. M. Sahai, DIG, Central Kashmir Range, Mr. Farooq Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Mr. Aijaz Iqbal, Chief Engineers of various disciplines, Commissioner SMC, senior officers of Health, CA&PD and various security agencies were present.
