World Arbor Day observed Need for plantation stressed, 8.50 lakh saplings being planted

Ganderbal, March 21
In connection with World Arbor Day, an impressive function was organized by Social Forestry department in Government Degree College, Ganderbal today.
On the occasion, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Mr. Irshad Ahmad Khan, Director Social Forestry Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad and Chief Conservator of Forests inaugurated the plantation drive by planting a sapling of Chinar in the premises.
Later addressing a gathering, the Director Social Forestry said that during the current plantation season 22 lakh sapling of different species are being planted on vacant forest and community land throughout the state. Of these, 8.50 lakh saplings are being planted in Kashmir valley. He said 1900 registered village forest committees are presently involved in joint forest management activities of Social Forestry department in the state.
