| PDP for early troops reduction in J&K | | | NEW DELHI Ahead of his crucial meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on Wednesday said his party would not wait for a long time for reduction of troops from civilian areas of the state. "Every day counts," Sayeed told reporters shortly after reaching here for the talks. Terming the "differences" with Congress as "very serious", the PDP patron appeared to disagree with the Prime Minister's view that one should wait for the onset of summer for a review of the security situation in the state. Demilitarisation in J&K is one of the key demands of the PDP. "Small beginning matters and it has to be made," Sayeed said referring to the Prime Minister's letter rejecting the PDP's demand. Asked whether this is the end of coalition with Congress. Sayeed said "I would not like to open my cards like this...All I want the Centre to understand is that some modalities needs to be worked out." To a query about the prospects of the Centre setting up a Committee which could go into the issue of reduction of troops, Sayeed said "we want to make it clear that we are not in favour of any window dressing."
