| Rehabilitation policy to minimise displacement: Govt | | | New Delhi, Mar 21 The government today said the proposed rehabilitation policy would seek to minimise displacement of people when land is acquired for industrial projects, including Special Economic Zones. "The Ministry of Rural Development is formulating a revised National Rehabilitation Policy with the objective to minimise displacement and to promote as far as possible non-displacing or least displacing alternatives," Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha. He said the policy would have adequate rehabilitation packages and provide for expeditious implementation of rehabilitation process with active participation of displaced persons. "As and when the new policy is implemented, it will apply to acquisition of land for industrial projects including SEZs," Ramesh said.
