| SP members face maximum criminal cases: Report | | | Lucknow, Mar 21 Samajwadi Party (SP) tops the list of parties having the maximum number of MPs and MLAs facing criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh. As many as 106 legislators and 21 lawmakers from the state had criminal antecedents, according to a Home Department report to the Parliamentary Committee on election reforms. While SP tops the list with 41 MLAs facing criminal cases, BSP occupies the second position with 21 legislators, Home Department sources said today. BJP has 19 MLAs against whom criminal cases were pending followed by seven independents, two of Congress and three of the RLD. Among the MPs, SP's Ateeq Ahmed faces the maximum number of 21 criminal cases while another party MP Akshay Pratap Singh has six cases against him, the report said. BSP MP Bhalchandra Yadav, who recently joined the SP, was facing 10 criminal cases while another SP member Baleshwar Yadav had one case against his name. SP MP Afzal Ansari, who is currently lodged in jail in connection with the killing of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, also figures in the report. BJP's Brij Bhushan Saran Singh was facing eight criminal cases. BSP's Uma Kant Yadav had 34 cases lodged against him while his brother and another BSP member Rama Kant Yadav was facing 13 cases, the report said. |
