| Rajouri, Poonch reel under cold wave, Mughal road closed after heavy snowfall | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Nov 7: As was predicted by the state weather department moderate to heavy rains followed by thundering lashed the entire areas in Rajouri and Poonch districts bringing down the temperature considerably. The vehicular traffic and people's movement on the historical Mughal road has also been stopped due to heavy snowfall in Pir Ki Gali belt. In Rajouri and Poonch districts people were seen warming them in the bazaars and lanes by lighting fire. The moderate snowfall is continue on the high reaches of Pir Panchal mountain ranges and thunder showers lashed downstream in both the districts today increasing severe cold wave affected the normal life. Report arriving from Mughal road said that high reaches in Poonch district were also snowing since last night and it was the first snowfall of this season. The rains which, according to agriculture department, came earlier by 15 days have brought joy on the faces of farmers as they can sow the wheat crop earlier and expecting high yields this year. "The normal sowing season for wheat crop in Rajouri Poonch district is between November 15 to 25. Earlier rains is a very good signal for sowing wheat crop and also for those who had already sowed the crop. It will give very good yields to the farmer this year" said KK Nakhashi, sub divisional agriculture officer. But early snowfall and closing of Mughal road have also badly affected those who are involved in the trade of fresh vegetables and fruits between Kashmir and Rajouri-Poonch districts. "People associated with the maintenance of Mughal road don't possess necessary snow clearing instruments which will result in heavy loss to the traders involved in trade between Kashmir and Rajouri-Poonch districts via Mughal road. Srinagar is about 500 kilometers from Rajouri via Jammu while it is about 150 kilometers via Mughal road and most of the traders are using this route. |
