| Anganwadi workers, helpers stage protest demos | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 7: Hundreds of Aganwadi workers today staged a massive protest demonstration at Kupwara in North Kashmir against their long pending demands. The protest march led by EJAC-Kashmir President Aijaz Ahmad Khan. Reports reaching Global News Service said that hundreds of Anganwadi workers and helpers assembled at Town Hall Kupwara and later took out a protest march under the leadership of Aijaz Ahmad Khan. "We will continue to fight till the genuine demands of the employees did not met", an agitating leader, Ruqaya Khanani while talking to GNS said, adding that the government in every aspect exploiting the workers of our department. She said that the higher authorities have released funds for Anganwadi workers and helpers but the authorities in CDPO and District Social Welfare Offices have not paid their wages for past nine months. "In absence of the wages, the Anganwadi workers are facing immense hardships. We lodged complaints with senior officials of the concerned departments but of no avail. She appealed the government to regularize their services, increase monthly honorarium and other pending demands. "We want to maintain that if honorariums are not released at an earliest and government fails to fulfill our genuine demands, we will intensify our protests". Aijaz Khan listened to their demands and grievances and assured them he would raise all their issues with the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. The protesters were demanding gratuity, formulation of pension scheme, immediate enhancement of their remuneration, payment of minimum wages and withdrawal of attempts to privatize ICDS. The protesting workers also demanded regularization of their services as Class III and Class IV employees with immediate increase in their honorarium to Rs. 5000 and Rs 4000 per month respectively. They were also demanded release of training grants and providing of TA, DA for attending different meetings like pulse polio and Aids Awareness Programmes. (GNS) |
