| TDS forms 40% of revenue collection for Government of India | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 7: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) J&K State Council in association with Wizkid Consultants today organised an awareness session on TDS & TCS at SKICC Srinagar. The seminar was supported by Department of Income Tax, Government of India. Speaking on the occasion, Gulzar Ahmad, Asst Commissioner Income Tax Srinagar said that lack of awareness among DDO's on the subject is a major concern and we must all make an effort towards this direction. Riyaz Ahmad,IT0-TDS Srinagar said that there has been considerable improvement in TDS collections in Kashmir over last two years and we intend to increase this further. Chief guest of the seminar H C Negi, Commissioner Income Tax (TDS), North West Region said that target for the region for the current fiscal year is Rs 16600 crores which is a significant increase . He elaborated and explained that TDS collection forms 60 % of revenue collection in North West Region and 40% Nationally and hence this is a very significant tax and needs adherence by all stakeholders and same can be achieved by proper planning throughout the year. He also said that since TDS returns are now filed electronically, it has become much easier for all. A detailed e-tutorial is available on the department website for better understanding of the provisions and steps to file returns. Mushtaq Ahmad, CEO Wizkid Consultants gave a detailed presentation on TDS and answered many queries from the audience. He said that they will partner with CII to create more awareness throughout the state. The event was attended by DDO's, treasury officers, revenue officials, finance officials of banks and private companies and was a very interactive programme. |
