Manjit Singh demands one time settlement of displaced persons ,refugees

Vijaypur, Nov 7: A delegation led by former minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today called on Parliamentary Committee and appraised about the plight of refugees/displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971.
Singh, who was leading a delegation of atleast ten persons including Panchayat members, met the Parliamentary Committee of Ministry of Home Affairs at Government Guest House on Canal Road. During their interaction with the Committee, Singh demanded one time settlement of the refugees/displaced persons and tenancy right on the land, they were holding.
Singh said that the displaced persons were forced to vacate their houses and leave their ownership land due to wars between India and Pakistan yet the Government has not done anything to settlement their demands. He alleged that decades have passed still the refugees/displaced persons who were forced to shift from the border areas were once again settled in the border areas to face firing from Pakistan. He while quoting recent incident of firing by Pakistan said that the border people were spending hard life in the absence of security since Pakistan restored to heavy fire.
Quoting example he said India has handed over Shamb area to Pakistan during its agreement with it at Shimla in 1971 and the people of Shamb were forced to leave their land.
“Keeping their hardship and difficulties in their life, the Government should give them relief and other facilities at par with Kashmiri Pandits,” Singh demanded.
He said that special recruitment drive should be launched by the Army and Para-military forces to recruit border youths, who were educated but many of them yet looking for jobs. “The Government should facilitate their education, and provide reservation quota to them,” he demanded. The Parliamentry committee listen their grievances and appraised them that their demands would be projected before the Union Government.
Prominent among those who were the part of delegation include Partal Choudhary, Brij Mohan Dutta, Sukhjinder Singh Sarpanch, retired Col Swaran Singh, Sarpanch Paras ram, Om Prakash,Bachan Choudhary besides others.
