| Special packages for Ladakh ahead of LA elections | | | Javaid Naikoo Ladakh, Nov 7: As part of his campaigning, the united progressive alliance (UPA) Prime Ministerial candidate, Rahul Gandhi met the office bearers of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) of district Kargil in Srinagar and assured them special packages for Ladakh division in near future to strengthen the base of Congress candidates. A delegation of 32 members including newly elected councilors of LAHDC Kargil district led by Chief executive Councilor Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai who met Rahul Gandhi in Srinagar put before him various demands and urged him to fulfill all the demands before the forthcoming 2014 assembly elections with an intention to strengthen the base of Party. The demands put forth by the delegation include laying of foundation stone for Zojila tunnel by Sonia Gandhi. The delegation urged completion of the project ahead of schedule. Air service between Srinagar-Ladakh during harsh winter months were also sought. Beasides, the delegation asked for high-tech telecommunication for the entire region and upgradation of education system. Talking to Early Times, Karbalai said that Rahul Gandhi accepted all the and assured them prompt action. "These special packages for ladakh division ahead of forthcoming assembly elections will help the party candidates contesting 2014 assembly elections form Ladakh," he said. Karbalai also said paucity of time prevented the delegation from taking up political issues. However, he told Early Times, that Kargil Congress was not in favour of any kind of coalition with the National Conference in future keeping in view the attitude of its senior members over the years. |
