| 'All is fair in love and war' | | UP CM says: Election Commission is biased | | NEW DELHI, MAR 22 The restive, controversial Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP), Mulayam Singh Yadav, has begun to spew fire against the Election Commission of India. He has accused the poll panel of acting under the influence of the government of India. Mulayam Yadav has run fastg and furious over Election Commission's overhaul exercise in the poll-bound State of Utar Pradesh. After Election Commission transferred top police officials and bureaucrats in UP, including Chief Secretary and many SSPs, Mulayam Yadav has accused the body of acting under the influence of the Union government. In a media interview, Mulayam Yadav said: "Election Commission is a constitutional body. So I will not say anything now, but after the elections I will tell the country the truth. As of now, I just want to request the Commission not to run a parallel government". Responding to a number of transfers in the UP administration at the behest of the Election Commission, Mulayam Yadav observed: "It is not good to run a parallel government. They should have conducted enquiries against those who they thought were facing complaints". Asked if the Election Commission is biased against him, the UP Chief Minister reiterated: "I am saying that I will bare the truth after the elections". When he was specifically asked if he was saying that Election Commission was taking orders from the Centre, he remarked: "Congress has made it a policy to appoint its own men as governors all across the country". "If they (Election Commission) would have conducted enquiries even against one person, I would have had no objections", Mulayam Yadav said when told that the poll panel is transferring all top officials because it feels that he (UP CM) would put pressure on them. Mulayam Yadav does not agree that all these top oficials were his men. His answer to a supplementary question: "Government servants are no one's men. After all, who are the Election Commissioners? Haven’t they also been appointed by someone? Today I can say with authority, that the Chief Secretary is a great officer, he is very popular".
